Yuva Mitra provides relief during lockdown; Distributes 10 quintals wheat, feeds 1069 families

SINNAR (NASHIK) :

As mankind fight the unprecedented global catastrophe in recent times, different organisations and individuals apart from farmers who themselves are one of the social constituents badly affected by the lockdown, in the district are doing their bit for the poor and the needy, who have been hit the most by the COVID-19 situation and the lockdown.

Among the many other organisations and associations, the Yuva Mitra in Sinnar tehsil, has been distributing food supplements to people in and around the city since the lock down. This group of young people has so far fed 1069 poor families.

The farmer who has also bore the brunt of Covid-19 lockdown, however is not behind in his social responsibility. Many farmers from areas of Kundewadi and Chincholi came forward for a cause and collectively handed over 10 quintals of wheat to social organisation Yuva Mitra, for distribution to the needy.

Sangameshwar Water Utilization Society and villagers in Kundewadi took initiative and handed over 6 quintals of wheat representing the village and 4 quintals of wheat from Gudumba River Water Utilization Society and villagers in Chincholi, to Sunil Pote, founder and executive director of Yuva Mitra.

As the lockdown period is getting longer day by day, many poor and the homeless are still not getting enough help from the government even though food grain is being distributed through public distribution system. Many helping hands are coming forward for a cause and this time the villagers of Kundewadi and Chincholi have taken the initiative to feed the hungry.

Help to 1069 families

‘Yuva Mitra’ started an initiative to provide 15 days of groceries to the needy families during the lockdown. This help continues even after the fourth lockdown which is ending on Sunday as many helping hands have come forward to assist these energetic youngsers. At the same time, a campaign was launched to collect foodgrains directly from farmers in rural areas to distribute it to the needy through this group of youngsters.

In the last two months, the Yuva has collected grains from farmers in villages of Gulvanch, Kirtangali, Saradwadi, Ashapur, Adwadi, Dhondbar, Wadzire, Bhatwadi, Kundewadi and Chincholi. The farmers voluntarily came forward and donated their agricultural produce to the needy with the help of local youth. So far, the group has fed about 1069 poor families in the vicinity. The work is going on unabated.
