Voters show less enthusiasm
Nashik: A disinterest was seen among voters in the district during the state assembly elections on Monday and a total of 60.13% voting was recorded in Nashik district. The highest voting of 67% was recorded in Kalvan tehsil, while the lowest voting of 40% was registered in Nashik east constituency. Cash of Rs 1.25 crore was seized in Nashik central constituency. Meanwhile, the fate of candidates was sealed in electronic voting machines and counting of votes will be held on Thursday (Oct. 24).
Barring minor incidents, the voting process in all the 15 constituencies in the district was held peacefully. Police maintained a strict vigil at all polling centres to prevent any untoward incident. There are a total of 148 candidates in the fray for 15 seats.
The voting began at 7 am on Monday. While conducting a mock poll, electronic voting machines malfunctioned at some places. Barring this exception, the voting process at all polling centres was going on smoothly. The effect of light drizzles was seen on the voting turnout. Voters avoided going out of their homes in the morning.
A total of 5.50% voting was registered in the first two hours. As rains stopped later, voters came out to exercise their voting right. Comparing to city, enthusiasm was seen in the rural area. There was an increase in voting percentage in the afternoon.
District administration was monitoring the voting process in all 456 centres in the district through webcasting. When half-an-hour left for the end of the voting, many voting centres witnessed the rush of voters. Comparing to young voters, senior citizens and specially-abled voters were ahead in exercising their right. Meanwhile, after completion of the voting process, electronic voting machines were sealed and they have been kept in strong rooms at the places of vote counting.
Offences filed for shooting in mobile
Offences have been registered against seven voters for shooting the voting process in their mobiles at seven polling centres in the district. These shooting incidents took place at Vinchur, Nashik, Nashik east, Nashik west, Deolali and Malegaon outer constituencies.
60.13% voting this time
Nashik: Though district administration had conducted voter awareness drive on large scale, the voting percentage in the district has declined this time, comparing to last state assembly elections. The district had 65% voting in 2014 elections, while this time the voting percentage is 60.13%.
The voting percentage in all three constituencies in city is 55%. The lowest voter turnout as 47% was recorded in Nashik east constituency. The district administration had conducted Vote Kar Nashikkar during the Lok Sabha elections. In effect, there was recordbreak voter turnout in Nashik and Dindori Lok Sabha constituencies.
The administration was striving hard to incrase voting percentage in state assembly elections. Various projects were being conducted to create awareness among voters. Information about VVPAT and electronic voting machines was also given. Despite hard efforts, urban voters turned their back to voting. The voting percentage could not cross the figure of 60.
