Deolali Camp: A water for drinking purpose has been released from Darna dam for various establishments between Nashik Road to Lahvit. The next rotation will be in May and use this water carefully, urged the various organizations.
This year, the district is witnessing a severe drought condition. Water stock which is essential for 50,000 population in defense and Deolali Camp area is left in Darna dam. As water is reserved it will be provided to the concerned, but considering evaporation of water and lifting of water through motors by farmers in the villages along the river, there is no guarantee that Deolali and defense department would get their reserved stock of water.
The water supply was disrupted last month due to technical snags. At present, water in sufficient quantity is supplied daily for one time to Deolali Camp. As cantonment board indicated to take legal action against those wasting water, its effects are being seen.
As rotation from Darna dam will be stopped from the next week, water will be stored in the barrage constructed by the army in Darna river bed. As this water has to be used for the next 15 days, it is necessary to make its planning.
Taking a precaution about this, the defence department has prepared a programme regarding saving of water. Cantonment board administration should also give a priority for this and make a plan.
It is the responsibility of both defence department and cantonment board administration to last water in the barrage till May end. Citizens will also play a major part in it. It is illegal to use drinking water for washing of clothes or vehicles.
