Two-way traffic in Vakilwadi again
As police personnel found missing from the last two days, two-way traffic in Vakilwadi area of the city has been started again. With this, the entire Vakilwadi area and Mahatma Gandhi Road are witnessing traffic congestion.
On the backdrop of traffic congestion in the city, Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre Patil some days ago visited the places of traffic congestion and had issued instructions to officials and personnel of traffic department, however, the situation is that police personnel have neglected his instructions and orders.
Due to two-way traffic in Vakilwadi area, traffic congestion in Mahatma Gandhi Road and Vakilwadi area is a regular phenomenon. Shop owners who tired of this had staged a unique agitation on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Taking note of this, planning for one-way traffic was made on Mahatma Gandhi-Ashok Stambh via Vakilwadi route, after instructions by the Commissioner of Police and assistant commissioner of police. Two traffic police had been appointed in Ashok Stambh and Khanderao Maharaj temple area. They were instructed not to allow vehicles from the opposite direction.
Traffic on Shivaji Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road has been shut for completion of smart road work connecting CBS and Meher signal. Though Mahatma Gandhi-Ashok Stambh via Vakilwadi route is one-way, auto-rickshaw and other vehicle are headed from the opposite direction to Mahatma Gandhi Road, leading to traffic congestion there.
Taking note of the agitation by shop owners, one-way traffic was started, but police personnel found missing for the last two days. Two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws, four-wheelers and other vehicles are entering Vakilwadi area again from Ashok Stambh. Considering these shop owners in Vakilwadi have warned to stage agitation again.
