Two held in highway robbery case


Nashik: Two persons were arrested while a minor was detained from Aurangabad, 200 km from Nashik in connection with highway burglary.

The incident took place on May 29, on Nandgaon-Malegaon road when a truck driver was robbed for cash and a cell phone worth about Rs 19, 700.

The truck driver Kalyan Badoge, a resident of Gangapur taluka in Aurangabad, was transporting rice to be unloaded in Malegaon. However, when the vehicle passed through Mehune village around midnight, five persons allegedly stopped the truck by an autorickshaw and robbed him of his belongings.

“The incident was reported to the Malegaon police station falling under the jurisdictions of Nashik rural police, and accordingly teams were sent to gather information on the suspects,” said superintendent of police, Sanjay Darade.

Darade said that teams were instructed to look at all suspicious activities on highway and neighbouring areas. It was later revealed the autorickshaw used for the crime was from Aurangabad and the investigation was focussed accordingly.

He added the accused, Kalim Shabbir Shah, 21, Shaikh Arbaz Shaikh Nabu were arrested from Aurangabad city.

The senior officer said that after a thorough investigation, the duo admitted having committed the crime. “The cops are in the process of identifying the other suspects which will be revealed during the investigation,” Darade said.

The SP said the vehicle used for the crime, stolen cash and cell phone has been recovered from the accused and the arrested suspects have been remanded police custody until June 18.
