Women stop miles of walk to fetch water; Water supply restored at Darewadi, Lonwadi

The water supply in Darewadi-Lonwadi and surrounding areas of ​​Trimbakeshwar taluka has been restored following the order of District Collector Suraj Mandhare, informed village head Avinash Patil-Zole while talking to District Information Office.

Due to the damaged water supply pipeline, villages of Darewadi-Lonwadi and surrounding areas in Trimbakeshwar tehsil were facing acute water crisis for the past several days. Women and children of the village were forced to walk a distance of 10 km every day at around 36 degrees Celsius, for water. Taking a serious note of this, district collector Suraj Mandhare had ordered maintenance and restoration of water pipeline on war footing.

The key pipeline supplying water to Darewadi-Lonwadi area was damaged and as a result of that the area was facing water shortage. It was reported that women from five to six surrounding villages in the area had to carry pots on their heads and travel ten kilometers daily to fetch water water.

Tehsildar Deepak Girase immediately completed the repair work and restored water supply in the area, bringing smiles on faces of women who had to go miles daily to fetch water.

“I contacted local authorities on the issue of water shortage in Darewadi, Lonwadi and and completed the work of repairs to restore water supply. This has happened due to the follow up action of the district collector,” said Deepak Girase, Tehsildar, Trimbakeshwar.

Meanwhile, the district administration has added 17 tankers to its existing fleet of 25 tankers for supplying drinking water to over 64,000 people in over 100 villages and hamlets. In little over two weeks, the number of tankers have gone up from 25 to 42, while the number of villages have increased from 57 to 100.
