Water woes continue to haunt villagers in Trimbak taluka

NASHIK: Water woes continue in most parts of Igatpuri-Trimbakeshwar and other areas of the district as villagers affected by water crisis complain of water shortage and lack of a clear-cut water management policy on micro level.

East region of Nashik district is recognised as one of the major sources of water supply to Jayakwadi dam. In monsoon, rivers and their tributaries in the region overflow causing disconnection between villages. Unfortunately, the region which enjoys a track record of good monsoon rainfall, however, during summer heat it faces severe water crisis.

Amidst persisting water problem in the region, a woman from Shevge Pada in Trimbak taluka on Sunday raised the issue of water crisis with local MLA Hiraman Khoskar at a Pani Parishad (Water Conference) held at Harsul in scarcity-hit Trimbak taluka.

Replying to the concerns raised by the villagers, Khoskar replied confidently. He said, “I’ll not rest until and unless persisting water problem of Igatpuri-Trimbakeshwar is resolved completely. The newly elected people’s  representative stated that the current water crisis in Thanpada is more severe than that of existing in Shevge Pada.”

“I would very soon start a tour in the constituency to take stock of the prevailing water crisis,” Khoskar said further adding that activists of Jal Parishad apart from sarpanch, up-sarpanch, gram sevaks and extension officers would be taken into confidence to solve the water problem of the region once and for all.

Addressing the concerns of the Jal Parishad activists that villagers in this tribal-dominated areas are unwillingly migrating due to persistent drought conditions prevailing in the region and which are finding the villagers harder to make their both ends meet, MLA Khoskar assured them that focus would be given on micro planning for conservation of water in the region to make the Govt slogan ‘Paani Aadva, Paani Jirva’ a reality on the ground, as maximum number of rerservoirs fall in Igatpuri-Trimbak region.

Earlier, Jalpujan was performed in the presence of MLA Hiraman Khoskar, marathon runner Kavita Raut, BDO M B Murkute, district sports officer Ravindra Naik, water conservationist Gopinath Gangode and Sharad Shejwal among others.

Rajesh Dalvi anchored the programme, while Devidas Kamadi proposed a vote of thanks.
In order to reach message of Save Water to every household, hundreds of students were get involved in the Jal Parishad. A marathon ‘Jalthon’ was organised in which hundreds of students actively participated.
