MPCB letter: NMC rushes govt for policy decision

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) in a letter to Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has asked to return money it recovered through sanitation tax from Ambad and Satpur industrial area so far to MIDC. As Rs 35 crore has been spent for construction of sewage treatment plant for MIDC, NMC administration moving to make correspondence with the government for a policy decision by it over the issue.

NMC is recovering sanitation tax from industries in the industrial area, but there is no facility of underground sewage for industries in Satpur and Ambad industrial area. So, NMC should stop recovery of sanitation tax and return the amount it recovered through it so far to MIDC, stated MIDC in a letter.

Underground sewage has not constructed in Ambad and Satpur industrial area for the last many years. As MIDC is working as an authority here, it is its responsibility.

As there is no underground sewage, sewage water from 32 industries in Satpur industrial area and sewage water from 29 industries in Ambad are mixing in river Godavari through nullahs. High Court rebuked MPCB and NMC over Godavari pollution and directed to take immediate measures to reduce pollution.
