Labours face unemployment

NASHIK: Ashram schools and hostels of the Tribal Development Department have been closed due to the growing contagion of corona. As only Class X and XII classes will continue, the Tribal Development Department has decided to immediately cancel the appointment of salaried or Tasika employees.

Unemployment has hit the salaried employees again as the orders have been issued by the project officers. The Tribal Development Department has appointed Class III and IV employees on vacancies in Government Ashram Schools and Hostels. At present, about three thousand tribals and non-tribals are serving in the state on daily basis. The first wave of corona had stopped the service of salaried employees.

After the outbreak of corona, the ashram school was reopened and 50 per cent of the staff was recruited as per the requirement. The state’s daily wage workers are facing starvation due to the suspension of work during the Corona period. The administration has taken up the task of imparting education to the tribal students with the help of regular teachers.

Based on past experience, it is unlikely to be very successful. Therefore, in order to prevent educational loss of tribal students, opportunities should be given to salaried employees. Meanwhile, salaried employees have been working in government ashram schools and hostels for the last 10 to 12 years. Now the appointment has been abruptly canceled.

The financial situation of some of the employees has also deteriorated as their salaries have not been paid since September. Ashram schools have started at full capacity after Diwali. As soon as this decision is made, all the four divisions told to suspend the service of labours.
