K.K. Wagh bags autonomous educational institution status

NASHIK: The University Grants Commission conferred the status of an autonomous educational institution to K. K. Wagh Institute Of Engineering Education And Research. The status shall be maintained for ten years, starting from the coming academic years. Institute’s president Balasaheb Wagh informed everyone in a press conference yesterday. K.K. Wagh is the oldest engineering college in Nashik, and it’s the first time that an engineering college has bagged the status in the district.

A total of 49 institutes of the country (five from Maharashtra) received the status and K.K.Wagh under Pune University is the only college to get honoured with this status. A total of ten departments are functioning in this college at present. These include Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence. Out of the ten divisions, the National Board of Accreditation has accredited seven divisions.

University Grants Commission’s National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has accredited this college with an ‘A’ grade. This college is the sole college Nashik division to get an NBA rating for several programmes. Similarly, a joint survey conducted by the All India Council of Technical Education, Delhi, and the Union of Indian Industries, has honoured the college (for quality education) as the highest Platinum Institute for four consecutive years.

The Commission’s expert committee had made recommendations on autonomy after inspecting the college’s reputation in the society, various research projects the college’s implementing, classrooms, up-to-date facilities, library, transparent teacher recruitment and student admission process. After a thorough inspection, the Commission granted autonomy for ten years.

This decision will allow the college to decide the curriculum from next year. The college can also implement the self-examination system. Principal Keshav Nandurkar said that the curriculum shall be updated keeping in view the needs of the industry world. Dr. Sunil Kute stated that this opportunity will train students to compete globally.

Trustee Sameer Wagh, Ajinkya Wagh, S.S. Sane were present at the occasion. Ashok Merchant, Changdevrao Holkar, Shakuntala Wagh Secretary K.S. Bandi congratulated the teachers and professors.
