DSO procures 1200 MT of rice for distribution

NASHIK :

The disrict supply office has so far procured 1200 metric tonnes of rice for free distribution from the central pool against its requirement of 1800 MT. The process to prepare list of the beneficiaries without ration card is also going on at snail’s pace, and the district administration till date could add only 17000 beneficiaries to its list. This could cause difficulties in the distribution free rice to non ration card holders in the district.

The distribution of foodgrain was to begin at ration shops from May 25 to benefit over 4 lakh people across the distict.

Earlier, with a view to provide benefits of the Atmanirbhar Bharat package to the needy and those without ration card, the district supply office (DSO) had started the process for lifting 1800 metric tonnes of rice from the godown of Food Corporation of India at Manmad and similarly a survey work was undertaken on tehsil level to identify citizens without ration card. As per the package, beneficiaries sans ration card will be given 5 kg of rice for free after verifying their Aadhaar Card as valid ID proof.

As per the monthly distribution of food grains at 2600 ration shops, 26 kg wheat and 9 kg of rice is being distributed to Antyoday beneficiaries, 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice to Saffron card holders.

Till now, only 1200 metric tonnes of rice has been procured by the supply office and the survey work under the aegis of tehsildars is still going on tehsil level through gram panchayat, nagar palika, nagar panchayat, councillors and public representatives. Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan has approved distribution of food grains to those without ration cards.

Who will benefit:

* Family displaced labourers in the income group up to Rs one lakh
* Families who applied for ration card but still did not get the card
* Families whose ration cards are not registered online
* Economically weaker sections and families not included in the Antyoday and Priority card schemes.
