Defence ministry bans import of 2,851 items

NEW DELHI: Defence Ministry has notified a list of more than 2,500 imported items that have already been indigenised and 351 imported items that will be indigenised in the next three years, it said in a statement. The step is part of the efforts to achieve self-reliance in defence manufacturing and minimise imports by DPSUs, the ministry said.

The defence ministry has informed that the details of these items are available on the Srijan portal @ https:rijandefence.gov.in/DPSU%20In digenization%20List.pdf Earlier, two positive indigenisation lists of weapons/platforms/ systems/ammunitions, etc., were notified by the Department of Military Affairs, to provide impetus to self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Rajnath Singh while addressing the 94th Annual General Meeting of FICCI this month said India cannot depend on other countries for defence technologies due to its stature, its geographical location as well as the security challenges it faces.
