Nashik: After the government had acquired farmlands in Igatpuri and Sinnar tehsils for the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi corridor through a direct purchase method, the lands will now be acquired again for Surat-Hyderabad highway which has been proposed under central government’s Bharatmala project.

The primary survey for the highway was conducted last year. The next action is expected in the next financial year 2020-21. This four-lane highway will pass through four tehsils in Nashik district and the distance will be 120-km. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed Bharatmala national highway development project under international connectivity development project.

There is a plan to include national highway development projects proposed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and all other highway projects in the scheme. Plan worth Rs. 2.6 lakh crore has been prepared to construct new roads having a distance of 25,000 km. The financial corridor, inter corridor and feeder route, border and international connectivity road, coastal and coast connectivity roads and construction of expressway are among them.

A new highway has been proposed under Bharatmala project to connect two important cities of Surat and Hyderabad. It will be four-lane. There is a plan to extend this highway further and connect to coasts on the eastern coastal area. This highway will be based on the lines of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi corridor.

The highway will pass from Nashik, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts. A primary survey was conducted last year under National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The survey was conducted on land and through drone and marking of the border has been done. The highway is proposed to pass from Surgana, Peth, Dindori, Nashik, Niphad and Sinnar tehsils from Gujarat boundary. This distance will be 120-km.

The land acquisition process will be conducted again for this and the survey report will be considered to fix the compensation to be given for the farmers and valuation of the land. This highway has been included in the second phase of Bharatmala project and action on it is expected in the next financial year, sources from NHAI informed.

Though demarcation of 100-metre width has been done, the actual width of the highway will be 70-metre. Surat-Hyderabad highway will cross Samruddhi corridor near Wavi in Sinnar tehsil.
