Satpur: The role of library has become important in teaching and research. Books in the library are its asset. Students should focus on reading and emphasise on enhancement of research quality, stated Vice Chancellor of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University Prof. E Vayunandan.
The birthday of former President of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was celebrated as Reading Day at YCMOU. Prof. Vayunandan was speaking during inauguration of the reading week which is being organised at university’s library and information resource centre.
Registrar Dr. Dinesh Bhonde, director of humanities and social sciences faculty Dr. Umesh Rajderkar and chief of the library and information resource centre Dr. Madhukar Shewale were present on dais.
Prof. Vayunandan further said that reading is very important to create a new knowledge base. With changing times, research is required in various fields. He instructed to conduct various programmes to inculcate reading habit among students.
Earlier, Prof. Vayunandan worshipped the image of Dr. Kalam. A book exhibition was organised in the library. Dr. Madhukar Shewale made the introductory speech and compered the programme. He also proposed the vote of thanks.
Girl-student of BBA course Afrin Ali inaugurated the reading week after instructions by the Vice Chancellor. Officials, teachers and students were present.
