Smart city works worth Rs 500 crore to begin

Following the declaration of lockdown in the country to contain the spread of coronavirus, the entire country is facing financial losses. The development in Nashik has also come to a standstill. The development works which have been stalled will begin in last stage of the lockdown within some days. On the backdrop of this, smart city company has asked to start stalled project works immediately.

After the declaration of lockdown by the central government on March 23, development works worth Rs 1,003 crore by Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) and smart city company came to a standstill. Development works by both of them were going on in the municipal area at various levels. Some works which began following work orders had also been stalled. In effect, officials of smart city company and labourers returned to their native places.

NMC’s development works in the last financial year and a current financial year worth Rs 525 crore have been halted due to lockdown. In addition, development works worth Rs 475 crore by smart city company have also come to a standstill.

Internal road development works worth Rs 200 in ABD area, works worth Rs 70 crore under Godavari beautification project, installation of the mechanical gate below Ahilyadevi Holkar bridge and removal of slit from Godavari river have been stalled. In addition, renovation work worth Rs 3 crore of Pandit Paluskar hall has also been halted. Installation of CCTV cameras and laying of cable worth Rs 168 crore under MahaIT in the city have also come to a standstill.
As the government has now shown a green signal, stalled works of the smart city will begin.

Following approval by the government chief executive officer of smart city company Prakash Thavil in a letter to contractor, companies has conveyed to start halted works immediately. He has also instructed them to follow social distancing while doing these works and provide protective equipment to labourers.
