Panchavati: The Shri Rm and Garud Rath Yatra will be organized in the evening today (April 16). The yatra (procession) of Ram Rath and Garud Rath is organized on Bhagvat Ekadashi which falls after Ram Navmi.
Meanwhile, Shriram Rath was shifted from its traditional location on Monday evening after its pooja and has been taken to the eastern entry of Kalaram temple area. All the preparations for the Rath Yatra have been completed.
Buva Shrikant Pujari will perform pooja of the Rath around 5 pm today and will keep the idol of Lord Shri Ram and paduka in it. The procession will begin thereafter. Around 260 years ago, Gopikabai of the then Shrimant Peshwa family had expressed his wish demanding to cure Madhavrao Peshwa to Lord Ram at Kalaram temple.
After his health was cured, Gopikabai had offered a wooden rath. This rath is known as Shri Ram rath today. The then Peshwas had handed over responsibility of maintenance of the Rath to Raste.
At present, activists of Raste Akhada is handling this responsibility very well. Wheels of the Rath have been replaced in the last two years and wooden strips of the gallery of the Rath have been replaced.
As the idol of Lord Hanuman got older, another idol was prepared from a sculptor from Rajasthan. In addition, Shri Kalaram temple trust has prepared the Garud Rath in 1965. Shriram Rathotsav committee of Raste Akhas Talim Sangh is readying the Rath before its procession.
Meanwhile, the procession of Shri Ram and Garud Rath will begin from the eastern entry of Shri Kalaram temple and will proceed through Dhikale Nagar, Nag Chowk, old Adgaon Naka and via Ganeshwadi will reach Mhasoba Maharaj ground.
