Nashik: Shiv Sena yesterday took a tough stand against regional BJP chief Raosaheb Danve who made an insensitive remark against farmers. Effigies of Danve were burnt at Nashik city, Yeola and Trimbakeshwar.
Raosaheb Danve had made an insensitive remark during a meeting of principal office bearers at BJP office. The government has recently cleared a proposal to purchase one lakh tonne of Tur. But still they (farmers) cry, he had said while addressing the party office bearers. He also advised an activist not to read newspapers after he asked how BJP won 22 seats in ZP.
There were angry reactions in the state condemning Danve after his statement. He was also criticised on social media.
City Shiv Sena unit staged a ‘Jode Mara’ agitation near its central office at Shalimar Chowk. Angry citizens beat up an effigy of Danve with shoes to express their anger. District chief Vijay Karanjkar, metropolitan chief Ajay Boraste, group leader Vilas Shinde and other office bearers were present.
Meanwhile, similar agitations were staged at Yeola and Trimbakeshwar.
