Rs 160 cr approved for 80 bio-gas projects in state

Nashik: The rules regarding solid waste management are being implemented effectively in the state and the percentage of waste segregation has been increased. The state government has approved the expenditure of Rs 160.80 crore for 80 local bodies for setting up bio-gas project for processing on domestic wet waste and wet waste in vegetable, meat, and chicken market.

Manmad, Sinnar and Yeola Municipal Councils are among those Municipal Councils which have been selected for this purpose. The central government is conducting Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to ensure a clean environment and good health for citizens in all the cities in the country.

Works like making cities free of open defecation and cleanliness under solid waste management have been undertaken. A new law for solid waste management has been made and a responsibility to implement it has been fixed.

It has been made mandatory that those creating waste should segregate wet, dry and harmful waste. On the backdrop of this, the state government has approved project reports regarding solid waste management by 383 local bodies in the state. A facility of window composting or pit composting has been provided to the cities for processing on wet waste.

Following the implementation of the new law, the percentage of segregation of domestic wet waste and waste in vegetable, meat and chicken market has been increased. The state government has on January 28, 2020, has given administrative approval for setting up bio-gas project to make processing on this segregated waste. Rs 1.20 crore each will be given for Manmad, Sinnar and Yeola municipal councils for setting up this project. Centre will give 35% grant and state government will give 23.3% grant for this project. Municipal Councils have to bear rest expenditure.
