Retreating monsoon claims 3 lives in district



The returning rains on Saturday lashed most parts of the district with talukas of Dindori receiving heavy rains in the evening amid gusty winds and hailstorm. The rain likely to affect grape vineyards and harvesting. The hailstorm lashed villages of Varkheda, Parmori, Avankhed, Valkhed and Khadaksukene adding to the worries of grapes growers in the area. The city of Nashik also received rains in the evening.

The rains also damaged crops of tomato, flower, cauliflower, groundnut and soybean besides grape vineyards.
The eastern part received heavy jolt due to stormy rains. Several farm fields in areas of Talegaon, Khatwad, Janori, Ganeshgaon and Dhakambe witnessed heavy water accumulation. Traffic was blocked and disrupted on the Nashik-Dindori road due to waterlogging.

In Dindori, lightning struck a 60-year old woman identified as Yamunabai Nivrutti Gangode when she was returning to her home. In another incident, a 45-year old woman seriously injured due lightning strike. Sunita Nandraj Bhoye was returning to her home at 4 pm when she was struck by lightning. She was immediately rushed to PHC at Nanashi.

In rain-lashed Igatpuri taluka, a 47-year old woman identified as Hirabai Karbhari Sadgir (hailing from Talegaon Budruk) killed due lightning strike. While in another incident 47-year old Bharat Bhaurao Bhale (resident of Barshingve, Rahul Nagar, Tal Igatpuri) killed due to lightning strike. The Igatpuri taluka has almost received 160% rainfall till date.

Meanwhile, two members of a family, including a 50-year-old woman and her grandson, were killed and three others sustained minor injuries after the roof of their house collapsed on them at Nandra village in Pachora taluka of the district.

On Friday night at around 2300 hours, the members of a Patil family were sleeping in their house when the roof collapsed suddenly, trapping all of them under the debris, police said. Upon hearing the noise, the neighbours rushed to their rescue, removed the debris and rescued three people, including two girls and one boy, however, Shobhabai Namdeo Patil and her one-and-a-half-year-old grandson Samarth Sandeep Patil were killed.

Other three members of the Patil family, including two girls and a boy, sustained minor injuries. After being informed about the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and they have registered a case of accidental death in this regard, sources added.
