Rain lashes the district, water level in dams on the rise


Nashik : Heavy rain lashed different parts of the district including Igatpuri and Trimbakeshwar talukas, resulting into rise in the water level in the district reservoirs by an average 5 per cent since Thursday. The streets in Trimbakeshwar were flooded with water, whereas farms in Ghoti areas affected severely.

Owing to the incessant rain since Thursday night in Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar and other catchment areas of the district, the water level in Gangapur dam increased to 3400 mcft from 2551 mcft with the inflow of 849 cusecs of water in a single day.

In the Gangapur group of dams, comprising Gautami Godavari, Kashyapi, Beze and Alandi, the water level increased considerably. The Gangapur dam currently occupying 62% of water of its total capacity.

Out of the total 24 dams in the district, the incessant rains is mostly benefitting 18 dams as it is evident from the rise in water level in these dams from almost 1% up to 8%. Till date, Darna dam in the district has recorded highest 71 per cent of available water stock.

The district irrigation department has started discharging water from the dams following forecast of heavy rains in the next couple of days.
