Pre-monsoon showers lash the district


NASHIK : Several parts of the district yesterday received heavy pre-monsoon showers even as the monsoon is yet to arrive in the state. As per the forecast by the Meteorological Department, the region is receiving pre-monsoon showers due to cyclone Mora in the Bay of Bengal.

Sources said that the thunderstorm followed by rains killed 14 cattle in the district, while 3 persons were killed after being struck by lightning. Some parts of Nashik and Pimpalgaon Baswant were lashed by hailstorm amid thundershowers that disrupted routine life.

Heavy rain was also reported from areas of New Nashik, Nashik Road and Satpur after the noon period. The taluka of Malegaon however was the worst hit with record 45 mm of rainfall on a single day yesterday.

Two persons from Malegaon taluka – Samadhan Bahadursingh Sumrao (30; resident of Tokade, Malegaon) and Sunanda Dinkar Gaikwad (32; Garbad, Tal Malegaon) were killed due to lightning, while another woman Savitri Yogesh Mali sustained injuries. The lightning also struck 14 cattle in Malegaon taluka of the district.

At Raigadnagar near Igatpuri, a youth identified as Vithu Kamalu Ughade (25) was killed after being struck by lightning.
The rainfall the talukas in the district recorded yesterday was as follows: Malegaon (45 mm) followed by Trimbak 42 mm, Nandgaon 36 mm, Nashik 30 mm, Igatpuri 30 mm, Dindori 22, Yeola 12, Sinnar 10, Satana 4, Surgana 4 and Niphad 0.4 mm.
