Ganesh Jadhav, an experimental young farmer from Harangaon near Jogmodi in the taluka, has learned about the technology of planting new crops and accordingly made a transformation in his farm.

Without any hindrance to the traditional cultivation of paddy and groundnut, the young farmer had planted Chikoo and mango trees on the embankment of field and on a fallow portion of land.

This young farmer has planted 20 to 25 saplings of Kali-patli variety of Chikoo in the field. At present, these trees are in full bloom. Kesar variety of mango had also been planted near Chikoo trees. However, this year, due to cloudy weather, the mango harvesting has been hit hard and the flower has fallen off. As a result, mango blossom has affected this year relatively than every year.

The present lockdown situation has turned into a boon for this youth who laid special emphasis on organic farming to grow Chikoo fruits. He is now selling the harvested fruits in local markets, villages and hamlets to meet his household expenses ensuring good financial support.

“If the farm culture and prosperity of the village is to be sustained, the farmer needs to respect soil and his/her own mother. Along with traditional paddy, sugarcane, groundnut cultivation, the technology of new yielding crops should also be adopted. For this, the youth should try to transform farming from conventional to sustainable farming,” said experimental farmer Ganesh Jadhav while talking to Deshdoot.
