‘Participation of citizens required for maintaining law & order’

Nashik : Police are an important and responsible component of society, but are presented in a bad light in various movies. There is a need to change this. Maintaining law and order is as much a responsibility of citizens as it is of the police. If police get proper responsefrom citizens, crime in society will definitely reduce, stated Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.

He was delivering the 17th lecture of the ongoing Vasant Vyakhyanmala at Devmamledar Yashwant Maharaj ground on Godaghat on the subject ‘participation of citizens in law and order’. The lecture was organised in memory of late Laxmanrao Tambe. PSO Somnath Tambe and Navalnath Tambe were also present.

Dr. Singal stated further that many times the common man has a fear of the police. Many projects have been undertaken after I took charge as Police Commissioner to increase interaction between police and citizens for removal of this fear. It is helping in changing image of police, but citizens must also take initiative for this, he urged.

As there is a shortage of police personnel vis-a-vis the population, work stress on them is increasing. Methods of crime have also changed due to social media and changes are also taking place rapidly in policing system, Dr. Singal informed.

Like citizens, police also have expectations from citizens. If these are fulfilled, interaction between police and citizens will increase and number of crimes will reduce, he expressed confidence. Dr. Singal urged that citizens should always remain alert for reducing crime.

Earlier, Madhavrao Bhange recollected memories of late Laxmanrao Tambe, whereas president of Vasant Vyakhyanmala Shrikant Beni introduced Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal.
