Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) had received a total of 621 applications from different Ganesh Mandals for setting up their pandals for the 11-day-long much awaited Ganesh Festival.

Out of the total received applications, the NMC has granted permissions to a total of 496 Ganesh Mandals and has rejected nine applications. Notably, the NMC has received a maximum number of applications from Panchavati division.

However, maximum numbers of applications have been approved in CIDCO division. Meanwhile, as many as 116 applications are still under process, informed civic sources.
Ahead of the much awaited Ganesh Festival, the Ganesh mandals in the city are busy in the final stage of preparations for setting up attractive pandals in various parts of the city.

However, as like every year and in order to avoid any damage to public property and inconvenience to citizens and traffic jams, the NMC administration has prepared the rules and regulations for public celebrations of Ganpati festival following the court orders.

In fact, a meeting called by the NMC with the organisers could not take place. As per the rules, pandals can only cover a maximum of one-fourth portion of any street with the prior permission of NMC. Charges for erecting the pandal is Rs 750 but the police permission will be given only after verification of the permissions by MSEDCL and fire department.

Officials from NMC and district administration will visit the spot of the pandal before granting the permission. Accordingly, till Wednesday evening the NMC had received a total of 621 applications out of which the NMC has granted permission to 496 mandals while the applications of 116 mandals are under process.

Meanwhile, the civic administration has rejected permission to nine mandals so far who have not been able to fulfill the norms laid by the Bombay High Court (HC), NMC, police commissionerate, MSEDCL and other government agencies.
