NASHIK: While the former guardian minister of Maharashtra Chhagan Bhujbal pushed for setting up an information kiosk of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), the issue is stuck at an administrative level, MTDC officials said. Bhujbal on Wednesday proposed to give a green signal with the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in Nagpur.
He demanded MTDC kiosk at Ojhar airport with a primary aim of promoting and introducing tourists about Nashik, its tourists and religious places like Shirdi, Saptashringi Garh, Trimbakeshwar, Bhandardara and world famous tourist spots like Ajinta-Ellora in Aurangabad.
A letter forwarded to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis by Bhujbal, said that a space was kept reserved for a tourism kiosk of Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) at Nashik airport with a view to introduce tourists visiting Nashik about tourist places in Nashik and across Maharashtra as well.
The centre, however, till date not became operational, it said adding that still the space has not been handed over to the MTDC. Meanwhile, an official on a condition of anonymity said that the MTDC has not been authorised or no authorised allotment has so far been done to operate the proposed information centre.
“The space has still not been allotted to MTDC, though the regional office provided fund for the development of the airport. It is completely at the discretion of the HAL and government when to start the centre. It all depends on the MoU signed between both the parties,” the officer added.
He added the launching of the facility will not only benefit tourism sector of the state but also help increase revenue of the MTDC considerably. On one hand, we are celebrating 2018 as Visit Maharashtra year, while on the other side, the government we are neglecting tourism sector, the letter said.
With the commencement of Nashik-Delhi air connectivity by Jet Airways, On an average, over 125 passengers from Delhi are paying frequent visits to Nashik and vice-versa. This informative facility will be helpful to connect these people with Nashik and whole of
Maharashtra, the letter forwarded to the chief minister said.
It is disappointing that despite fund given by MTDC to the Nashik airport, the proposal to open MTDC kiosk is still pending with government, it added.
