After coronavirus outbreak in Malegaon city, I was included in curfew squad. Our team was fulfilling responsibilities like controlling and pacifying citizens, tracing suspect patients and sending them to hospital. Though I had no symptoms, I had turned positive during health check of all. I had no fear, instead I felt sad that I had to step out of the battle and could not help my seniors and colleagues, felt assistant police inspector Ganesh Giri.

“Police administration had made preparations before spread of corona in Malegaon. As I was working at Ayeshanagar police station in Malegaon city, I was well aware of citizens of Malegaon, community and situation there. Following order by district superintendent of police and additional superintendent of police, various teams of police were formed. It was important to implement curfew strictly. I had been appointed in curfew squad. Our squad was preventing people in Kusumba Road, Karim Naka, Hazar Kholi, Mhada ployt, Ramzanpura and Ganegaon area from coming out of their homes and creating awareness about importance of social distancing and use of sanitizer and mask.

We were also tracing suspect patients by visiting containment zones and were sending them to hospital. District superintendent of police Dr Arti Singh, additional superintendent of police Sandip Ghuge, Sharmishtha Walavalkar, divisional officer Ratnakar Navale and senior police inspector were enquiring us time to time and guiding us. It was mandatory to use PPE kit while tracing patients. As I was living in Malegaon, I was staying in a separate room at home.

“As some colleagues had turned positive, corona test of all had conducted on April 25. I had turned positive on April 29. As a result, we had immediately been admitted to government hospital there and we had been shifted to district civil hospital in Nashik next day. I had no fear and had confidence that I would recover soon. During corona test of my family members, my eight-year-old daughter had turned positive. I was very emotional at that time. I felt sad that I could not meet her a single time, but we both overcame corona.

“After treatment at Adgaon medical college hospital after May 8, we had been quarantined in government hostel till May 14. After staying there for seven days, I was discharged. I had stayed in quarantine at home too. I joined the duty again”, stated Giri with a proud feeling
