NMC gets rain ready, undertakes nullah cleaning at Saraf Bazar

In order to ensure that pre monsoon civic works get completed within the stipulated deadline before the start of rains even as a huge Covid-19 challenge is posing before the administration, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has also given priority to pre-monsoon cleaning and sanitation works. Saraswati and other small and big nallahs in Saraf Bazar area were cleaned and desilted with the help of air jet pressure machine on Saturday. This would help avert the risk of flood-like situation in this market place during the monsoon, generaly it confronts every year during the rainy season.

As many as 50 employees along with officers from 5 divisions of the NMC carried out the pre-monsoon cleaning drive with the help of a high tech air jet pressure machine. The drains in and around the Saraf Bazar were cleaned and desilted.

Thus, probably for the first time, a clean-up operation was carried out extensively in the area with the help of state-of-the-art machinery. Due to floods and heavy water accumulation in the market place, local traders and residents were facing huge losses and damages to their houses and shops every year.

Last year, the bullion market was flooded twice due to heavy rainfall causing losses in crores to the jewellers. In view of this, the civic body has taken every precaution to protect the market from potential damage arising out of water accumulation.

Social activists Sachin Bhosale, Nashik Saraf Association (NSA) president Chetan Rajapurkar, Mehul Thorat, Shyam Dusane, Sanjay Soni, Yogesh Dandagavhal, Tushar Chavan and local residents and traders were also present on the occasion,

The municipal corporation cleaned and desilted the nullahs with the help of state-of-the-art machinery. This has reduced the risk of floods in the area. Municipal officials and cleaning staff were felicitated by Nashik Saraf Association.
