NMC to enforce plastic ban strictly


Nashik : Nashik Municipal Corporation has claimed that city was waterlogged on Wednesday due to large scale usage of plastic carry bags below 50 micrcon thickness, though there is ban on it.

It has started to take strict action against plastic carry bag sellers to prevent their usage. The health department seized 85 kg carry bags and recovered a fine of Rs. 42,500 from the sellers.

Commercialists, vegetable, fruit, meat and fish sellers in Nashik division are using plastic carry bags illegally on large scale. Blackspots of plastic waste are being seen along the road. City is suffering with high usage of plastic.

Though there are laws to make city free of plastic, plastic is being used on large scale and involvement of citizens in it is seen indirectly. Rs. 5,000 as fine will be charged for usage and sell of plastic carry bags below 50 micron first time. Rs. 10,000 will charged for second offence and Rs. 25,000 and jail term for three months will be awarded for third offence.

Considering usage of plastic carry bags on large scale despite this, NMC are taking strict steps to make the city free of plastic. It recovered the fine of Rs. 42,500 and seized 85 kg plastic carry bags. The health department is seizing plastic carry bags and conducting awareness among citizens about this.

Use cloth made or paper bags to prevent penal and legal action for usage of plastic carry bags, urged NMC. All citizens and sellers should prevent usage of plastic carry bags and cups to keep Nashik clean and beautiful and use paper and cloth made bags, urged health officer Dr. Sunil Bukane.
