NCP issues ultimatum to govt over crop loan waiver

Nashik : Farmers in state and country are facing difficulties today. This government is not serious over their problems. A time has come to show strength of farmers to it. Farmers are quiet today, but if they take to the street, they will not scare anyone, warned Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar yesterday and demanded to provide a total crop loan waiver. A period of one month is given for government to waive off the crop loan. If government fails to provide total loan waiver, NCP will stage agitation along with farmers, he warned further.

He was speaking during conclusion of farmer, farm labourer safety abhiyan, organised by NCP farmers forum at Nandanwan lawns. Pawar slammed the government over the issue of crop loan waiver. BJP had declared to provide total loan waiver in its manifesto. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier announced to provide total loan waiver.

They removed the word ‘total’ later and asked to pay Rs. 1.5 lakh first. Announcement was made to provide loan waiver as per norms to those farmers who had taken loan till 2016, but they still do not get anything. This is false assurance, he said to target the government.

“Everyone is paying the price for the situation which emerged in country and state today. Actually, farmer, farm labourer and workers are suffering the most. Agriculture produce is receiving less price. Onion prices had increased when I was Chief Minister. BJP MPs had come to the house, wearing onion garlands and demanded an answer from me for this, but I had prevented loss of the farmers. But this government is thinking about consumer well being only. It should also think about producers,” Pawar advised.

He warned to stage a nationwide agitation over farmers issue and instructed farmers’ forum to prepare an action plan for this. If government fails to provide the loan waiver within a month, next direction of the agitation will be decided in a meeting to be held at Aurangabad, it was made it clear.

Vanadhipati Vinayakdada Patil, farmers’ forum’s Shankar Anna Dhondge, Dutta Pawar, Hemraj Kor, Kishore Mathankar, MLA Pankaj Bhujbal, MLA Deepika Chavan, district NCP chief Adv. Ravindra Pagar and Vishunpant Mhaisdhune were present on dais.
