Nashik plants 1.99 cr saplings
The forest department of state came up with a target to plant over 33 crores of saplings. The department has claimed that the target has been completed by the administration. Nashik district has planted the highest number of saplings in the state of Maharashtra.
The district has planted 1.99 crore trees so far and the number is still counting, informed officials from the forest department. The district of Nanded has reached the second spot by planting around 1.86 crore saplings. While Chandrapur district has planted around 1.71 crore saplings and has stayed at the third spot in the state.
The forest department recently informed about the achievement. The officials have also said that though the target has been completed by the state administration the deadline is still not over. The target has been completed before the deadline. The forest department has decided to continue the tree plantation drive till the last date. September 30 is the last date of tree plantation drive as decided by the department.
The state government took an initiative of planting 33 crore saplings in 2019, under the green Maharashtra initiative, which started in the year 2016. Under the initiative so far the administration has planted 2 crore saplings in 2016, 4 crores in 2017 and around 13 crore saplings in the year 2018. On Wednesday, September 25, the department achieved the target of planting 33 crore saplings.
The administration planted around 33, 01, 31,523 samplings before the deadline. The forest department has thanked all other departments, NGO’s, educational institute, gram panchayats, industries and other institutions with the citizens who took part in the tree plantation drive and helped to achieve the target.
