Nashik-Kalyan local train trial in May

Nashik Road: The trial of Nashik-Kalyan local train will be conducted at Kasara Ghat between May 1 to 10. Research Design and Standard Organisation (RDSO) has given its permission to conduct the trials.

A fund of Rs. 9 lakh has been available for the trial and the trial report will be presented to chief manager of central railway D K Sharma and commissioner (safety) Jain. Thereafter, date of inauguration of the local train will be announced, informed former chief loco controller Waman Sangle.

It had been stated that this local train would be started in February, however, the trial has been delayed for three months due to red-tapism. The local train having 12 coaches had passed Chennai-Mumbai test successfully.

The trial at Kasara Ghat is pending. Three Nashik-Kalyan local trains will be kept ready. Seeing Nashikites’ response, a decision about timing and rounds will be taken. The Nashik-Kalyan local train is a Bombardier type.

Attractive and modern coach, best safety and automatic brake are the features of Bombardier type. Maintenance of all local trains is done in Kurla workshop at Mumbai. Software installation in Nashik-Kalyan local train has been started there.

Announcement of various stations and safety instructions are among these. The railway has given Rs. 9 lakh to the concerned department for the trial of the local train. While conducting the trial, there will be sacks having stones instead of passengers as a precautionary measure.

As the track is not available at Kalyan to put sacks, the trial is delayed. However, it will be conducted in any condition between May 1 to 10. There are instructions that the trial should be conducted without a single passenger.

The railway administration has decided to conduct the trial keeping sacks of stones in coaches. A backer (engine) will be attached to the local train at Ghat section. Like Rajdhani Express, this local train has push pool technology.

Rear coaches work as a brake. As a result, the local train is run fast without a backer. Due to new technology, the local train does not require to take a halt at Igatpuri and Kasara for attaching the backer. This local train is automatic and has high voltage motors.

Though it can easily pass the Ghat, the backer will be attached to it. The distance of the Ghat section between Kasara to Igatpuri is 15-km and has six tunnels. The local train will require one minute and five seconds to pass the first tunnel, while 15-17 seconds will require to pass other tunnels, Waman Sangle informed.

Two coaches of Nashik-Kalyan local train are reserved for agriculture and other goods. Farmers in the district can send fresh agriculture produce to Mumbai by these coaches. Farmers have to spend Rs. 100-150 only to send their agriculture produce by this local train.

Tribal students from Ghoti, Aswali and Igatpuri can go by this local train and take education at Nashik and Mumbai. They will make progress and their standard of living will be enhanced. The fair of ST bus from Nashik to Kalyan is around Rs.125.

The ticket fare of the local will be around Rs. 60. Load on Panchavati and other Express trains will be reduced due to this local. Villages between Nashik and Kalyan route will be developed and employment and business will get momentum. The traffic congestion on the Mumbai-Agra highway will be reduced.

This local train will complete Nashik-Kalyan journey in two-and-half hours. The speed of the local train will be 100-km per hour. There will be a single unit per three coaches. Every unit has a single engine. Two coaches are reserved for women, while one coach is reserved for disabled and two coaches are reserved for luggage. Three coaches are first-class coaches.
