Mungantiwar in Nashik today, to review tree plantation drive


NASHIK : State Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar will be in the city today to review tree plantation drive being conducted under the Nashik division. Meanwhile, in the wake of the minister’s visit, the district administration has reviewed its preparedness ahead of an extensive tree plantation drive.
The government has set a target of 4 crore plantation of saplings in the state for year 2017. Between July 1 and 7, the plantation drive will also be held in Nashik district where a target of 14,63,000 plantation of saplings has been set.

Mungantiwar will hold a crucial meeting of concerned forest department officials today (June 1) at the divisional commissionerate office here at 4.00 pm on the massive tree plantation drive.

According to district administrative sources, as many as 1.10 crore saplings have been kept ready in 86 government-owned nurseries. The village panchayat has been given a target of 5 lakh plantation of saplings, whereas the forest department has been entrusted with a responsibility to plant 7.5 lakh saplings within a stipulated time-frame.

Altogether 33 government departments including the forest deptt will be a part of this massive plantation programme. Dy-collector Surekha Chavan has chaired the meeting to prepare a micro planning over the drive.

Today’s crucial meeting under the Nashik division will be participated by district guardian ministers, concerned ministers, MPs, MLAs, ZP president, city Mayors, council chairpersons, panchayat samiti chairpersons and regional heads.
