Mumbai : Two policemen succumb to COVID-19

MUMBAI :

Two policemen succumbed to the COVID-19–the initial pandemic fatalities witnessed by the Police Department in this metropolitan–in a span of past two days, officials informed on Sunday.

They were both Head Constables, one a 57-year-old and the other a 52-year-old, both with many years of service. The former passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the Nair Hospital and the latter died in wee hours of today.

One cop was attached with the Vakola Police Station in Santacruz east while the details pertaining to the other is still awaited.

Those who came in contact with the duo deceased have been identified and are currently undergoing treatment.
Condoling unfortunate deaths of the policemen, Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh tweeted, “Mumbai Police lost two brave souls in a span of two days. May the departed souls rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers for the family and friends.”

The facts that Mumbai is witnessing a rise in the number of cases and 40 city cops have already contracted the infection, Mumbai Police have decided not to deploy personnel with comorbidities in containment zones.
