MUHS volunteers create awareness about Covid-19

The volunteers of National Social Service (NSS) scheme from the colleges affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) have created awareness about transmission of coronavirus in society. Over 8500 NSS volunteers and programmes officials are helping police and administration to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state.

Vice Chancellor of MUHS Dr Dilip Mhaisekar stated that  NSS volunteers in all colleges affiliated to the univrsity are serving society. Students taking medical education have primary information about patient, human body structure and epidemic. Due to this students from medical field are of bigger help while providing health service.

He further said that NSS volunteers are sharing videos showing how to prepare face masks in your homes through social media, their distribution, to impart training to those interested through I Got portal by government’s youth and affairs ministry, to download Arogya Detu app in mobile and to ask more and more people in society to use it, to prepare various videos about coronavirus and to release them through social media. They are also creating awarenesss about handwash, use of mask and to maintain social distancing, he added.

MUHS registrar Dr Kalidas Chavan said that currently 133 NSS units are functioning under th university and there are a total of 8800 volunteers who are recognised.

NSS volunteers  are working across the state as per guidelins issued by central government and divisional directorate, Pune. In order to contain Covid-19 NSS volunteers so far prepared more than 35,000 masks and distributed to citizens in various spheres of the society. These volunteers have completed training of corona warriors on I Got portal.

University volunteers are giving information to people asking them to download Arogya Setu app in their mobiles. They are explaining its benefit to the people. Due to the awareness created through NSS scheme more than 54,500 citizens have downloaded Arogya Setu app in their mobiles, he added.
