MSRTC to levy charges on luggage above 20kg
Nashik: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to levy charges on passenger luggage. MSRTC will levy the charges on a kilometre basis. The luggage under 20 kilogram will be allowed free of cost, but if luggage exceeds it, charges will be levied according to the kilometre to be travelled. The luggage charges will be from Rs 5 to Rs 100 depending on the distance of the journey.
There will be permission for only 50 kg of luggage per person and upto 20 kg it will be free of cost. The charges will be levied according to the stages of the route. Rs 5 will be added to the charges at every stage. Roughly, the MSRTC will levy charges of Rs. 5 for the distance of 0 to 78 kilometre for 20 to 40 kg of weight and for above 40 kg Rs. 50 will be charged. For the distance of 0 to 600 kilometre, the MSRTC will levy the charges of Rs 50 for upto 40 kg weight and above that Rs 100 will be levied.
The sources from MSRTC, informed, “There will not be any kind of weighing machine or any mechanism to measure the weight of the luggage. it will be measured as per the appearance of the luggage and the things which are in the luggage. The buses are mostly connected to rural parts and people carry heavy luggage like groceries, rice bags, wheat bags, farm equipements and many such heavy items. It puts extra load on the vehicle which increases the fuel and maintenance cost. The MSRTC runs on no profit no loss basis but the move will at least help us to run stable.”
