NASHIK: Marking Kranti Din on Thursday, Sakal Maratha Kranti Morcha observed bandh in Nashik city as well as in the district. Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation bore brunt of this. It shut 13 depots in the district considering the safety of passengers and loss.
4,928 trips by 900 buses to Dhule, Aurangabad, Ahmednagar, Pune and Mumbai were cancelled throughout the day on Thursday. MSRTC suffered a revenue loss of Rs. 1 crore with this.
The buses will be released to Pune and Mumbai after situation will be under control, informed the Nashik division control office. MSRTC took this decision after agitators had torched buses during earlier agitations.
As a precautionary measure, all buses have been stopped at bus depots. However, private vehicles by tour operators were plying. The city, as well as rural bus service, was also shut. Students and service persons faced inconvenience due to this. CBS, Nimani and Ravivar Karanja bus stand wore a deserted look.
Meanwhile, Panchavati depot suffered a revenue loss of Rs. 16.68 lakh with cancellation of trips by 272 buses. The bus service will be resumed after situation will be under control, informed officials from Panchavati depot.
