Nashik: Following heavy rainfall on Wednesday, many areas in the city as well as Saraf Bazaar had witnessed water logging. The General Body Meeting of NMC witnessed chaos over the motion moved over this issue. Considering chaos by opposition, Mayor Ranjana Bhansi approved subjects on the agenda as per rule and wrapped up the GBM, without any decision on the motion. Opposition condemned the Mayor for this.
Saraf Bazaar and most areas were under water due to Wednesday’s rainfall. There was chaos over the motion moved by opposition regarding losses and to conduct measures for this. The GBM which was presided over by Mayor Ranjana Bhansi ended in chaos. It started amidst chaos by the opposition.
As proceedings of the GBM were started as per agenda, opposition leader Ajay Boraste, Vilas Shinde, Dr. Hemlata Patil, Sudhakar Badgujar, Gajanan Shelar and Shahu Khaire demanded to discuss the motion first. After noting that Mayor was not paying attention, all opposition corporators rushed to the well and insisted for discussions on the motion. Following chaos by the opposition over their demand for discussions over rainwater issue, the Mayor had to take agenda back.
After start of discussions over the motion, NCP group leader Gajanan Shelar recalled the Marathi poem Yere Yere Pavasa…. Stating that money used for construction of underground and rainwater drains had gone waste, Shelar said that pipes of underground sewage were not cleaned since their construction that had cost Rs. 1300 crore. Saraswati nullah has not been cleaned up since it was closed. Construction of sewage treatment plant at Bhadrakali was held keeping the NMC in dark. Though rainwater drain work was supposed to be from Dwarka to Amardham, it was diverted to Bhadrakali.
If work is done as per report by advisory agency, citizens in Saraf Bazaar and its surrounding areas will remain safe, else there is fear that water can reach second floor. Shift pumping station and lavatories in Bhadrakali immediately. Take measures over this immediately. Conduct audit of underground sewage work. Recover money from officials and contractor for wrong construction. If this water problem is not resolved, agitation will be staged, Shelar warned.
Informing that there is fault in monsoon sewage scheme, Congress group leader Shahu Khaire said that Nashikites had witnessed effects of faulty scheme on Wednesday. Citizens had suffered huge losses. In addition, water accumulates at Dahipul and its surrounding areas due to faulty roads. Sewage in Bhadrakali were constructed wrongly. It should be considered. Sulabh lavatory in Saraf Bazaar was constructed on a nullah. As rainwater and sewage water accumulate here, it should be shifted immediately. Take measures to prevent Wednesday like incident, he demanded.
Stating that monsoon on Wednesday had exposed pre-monsoon works, opposition leader Ajay Boraste asked where is the storm water drainage system? Why did the water not flow away smoothly? How were pre-monsoon work contracts issued? Why were orders not issued to them? What is secret behind it? Administration should inform about secret behind this in the GBM. It is shameful that PMO issued a letter for enquiry of two NMC officials. Residences of citizens were damaged due to fault of administration and they should get compensation, he demanded.
Alleging that building of NMC headquarter was constructed on Purandare nullah, Dr. Hemlata Patil held town planning department and NMC responsible for filling up nullahs in the city.
Why action was not taken against plastic carry bag sellers in the city though plastic carry bags on large scale were found with them, asked Satyabhama Gadekar. How town planning department gave its permission for constructions on nullahs. Why action was not taken against concerned officials, she asked further.
Informing about condition that was created in the city due to monsoon, Shiv Sena group leader Vilas Shinde demanded compensation to be provided to citizens who suffered losses. MNS group leader Saleem Shaikh alleged that there was financial dealing in pre-monsoon works.
BJP corporator Dr. Deepali Kulkarni and Kalpana Pande criticised the town planning department for water logging in the city.
