It is the 9th day of the extended Lockdown 3.O and every person in the district and far-flung areas is trying his best to help the needy people. For daily wage earners, an extended lockdown means an abrupt pause in livelihood and employment.

Surgana taluka in the district is no exception to this. The Covid-19 lockdown has forced thousands of families dependent on daily wages to seek employment opportunities in tribal-dominated Surgana taluka.

With the aim of helping such poor and the. needy families, the principal secretary of the Kalwan Project had directed government-run Palsan ashram shala in the area to distribute surplus food grains it had in store by following the social distancing guidelines.

Accordingly, headmaster of the ashram school at Palsan, R J Yeole, with the help of his colleagues prepared a list of the needy and the poor families from Surgana tehsil and distributed the surplus ration including wheat, rice, poha, tur dal, mug dal, chavli, pea, turmeric and spices to as many as 500 destitute families in villages of Khadakmal, Jambhulpada, Palsan, Ubarde, Sule, Phanaspada, Ambepada, Chichpada, Jabhipada, Ranpada and Amda.

Palsan village head Keshav Gawli, gram sevak Ramdas Gavde, police patil Rama Dhum, ASHA workers, anganwadi workers and school teachers were present.

Many people have lost their jobs due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, while many of them were in need of help. After analysing the present lockdown situation, the government authorities had ordered us to distribute the surplus food stock of the ashram school to the needy and poor families. We have extended a helping hand to more than 500 families by adhering to the social distancing norms.
