Kulkarni elected as Mayor; Bagul Deputy Mayor

Nashik: Satish Kulkarni of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday elected unopposed as Mayor of Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), while veteran corporator Bhikubai Bagul of BJP became Deputy Mayor. BJP with support of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and Congress retained its rule At the eleventh hour, the five corporators of MNS extended support to the BJP. BJP thwarted an attempt of Shiv Sena to make a transformation of rule at NMC. It had to withdraw its nominations.

Shiv Sena, Nationalist Congress Party, Congress and independents came together and on the basis of 9 supporters of former MLA Balasaheb Sanap had claimed to create magic. However insistence by Congress to involve it in the rule, the decision by MNS at last moment to support the BJP and decision by 9 supporters of Sanap to give support to the BJP, the Aghadi was divided.

As a total of ten candidates including four candidates of Shiv Sena withdrew from the fray, BJP candidate Satish Kulkarni has been elected unopposed as Mayor and mother of regional BJP office-bearer of Sunil Bagul, Bhikubai Bagul has been elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor.

As 9 candidates withdrew from the fray, the way was clear for Bagul’s victory. After hard efforts, BJP has succeeded in maintaining its rule in the NMC. The election process to elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor began in a special General Body Meeting in the house in Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan at 11 am.

The group of Congress corporators led by Shahu Khaire reached the house half-an-hour before. Dr. Hemlata Patil arrived in the house separately.  Thereafter Shiv Sena candidate for the mayoral post-Ajay Boraste, Sudhakar Badgujar, Vilas Shinde and Satyabhama Gadekar arrived.

Thereafter a group of Sanap supporters along with Kamlesh Bodke reached the house. They made it clear to media persons that they were with BJP. Then Shiv Sena corporators, group of Nationalist Congress Party and finally former Mayor Ashok Murtadak along with MNS corporators reached the house.
