Javadekar criticises Cong-NCP over farmers’ strike

Nashik : As farmer is soul of Modi government, decisions were taken for their well being in last three years. Democratic Front government in Maharashtra had not brought even an inch of land under irrigation in its 15 years’ rule. If there was no corruption of Rs. 74000 crore in irrigation schemes, condition of farmers would be different today. Congress and Nationalist Congress Party looted farmers during their rule. Now they are taking their side, stated Union Human Resources Minister Prakash Javadekar while addressing a convention of BJP activists, yesterday.

While commenting that Congress and NCP are behind farmers’ strike, Javadekar said that one person has been sent to jail without taking name of Chhagan Bhujbal. Those who were involved in corruption of Rs. 74000 crore in irrigation scam will be probed by Enforcement Directorate. They will be sent to jail soon, he added without taking name of Ajit Pawar.

Javadekar stated that they had not provided water to farmers. Democratic Front government in the state was most corrupt. Newer scams surfaced every day during its regime. Inquiry of irrigation scam has been completed. ED traced the scam. Those who were involved in it will have to face jail term soon. It is certain, he made it clear.

Javadekar cited example of Madhya Pradesh where around 12 lakh hectares of land was brought under irrigation during regime of Shivraj Chouhan to ask why this had not happened in Maharashtra during 15 years’ rule of Democratic Front government.

Modi government at centre is taking decisions for well being of the farmers. There was always shortage of fertilisers three years ago, but after introduction of neem-coated fertilisers it has been removed. In addition, farmers are receiving agriculture subsidy directly in their bank accounts. With this, the regime of middlemen has come to an end. Government has brought soil scheme to inform farmers about soil, crop to be cultivated in it, usage of seeds and chemical fertilisers. With this it is easy for farmers to do the planning for a crop season and the expected expenditure, he informed.

Governments at Centre and inthe State are people-oriented. Farmers who were voters of Congress have turned their back to it after implementation of agriculture related schemes by BJP. Congress is angry with this. As the Modi government is farmer-centric, their well being will always be considered first, Javadekar assured.
