Home isolation is now an option for COVID-19 patients

MALEGEON :

A large number of patients in Malegaon are being sent home as per the revised rules for keeping them in home isolation after a micro-study of the symptoms seen in the patients. This will help reserve beds for those in need of treatment. In tune with guidelines of the Indian Council of Medical Research, persons clinically categorised as having very mild or pre-symptomatic coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will have the option of home isolation provided they have the requisite facility at their residence. They will have to submit an undertaking to adhere to self-isolation norms.

District Collector Suraj Mandhare who visited the hotspot Malegaon has however appealed to the citizens to take care as they need to strictly follow the instructions given to the patients in home isolation.

Mandhare had paid a visit to the power loom town where the number Covid-19 positive cases had touched 547-mark on Monday, to review the facilities provided to the patients at the Covid-19 Care Centres and the measures being taken to prevent the increasing cases of Corona. He was accompanied by the assistant collector and incident manager Dr Pankaj Ashiya, municipal commissioner Deepak Kasar, additional collector Dhananjay Nikam, district civil surgeon Dr Suresh Jagdale, sub-divisional officer Vijayanand Sharma, deputy commissioner (administration) Nitin Kapadnis, tehsildar Chandrajit Rajput and others.

The district collector visited the cancer hospital and ensured the ventilator facility there. He inspected beds in Sahara hospital besides visiting COVID care centre and the dedicated COVID care centre at MSG college.

After discussing with the attending doctors and nurses, he learned about the masks and sanitizers available in the hospital as well as about proper maintenance of hygiene in the hospital and the necessary facilities including food and clean drinking water being provided to the patients.

…else responsibility will be fixed : Mandhare

It is a matter of great regret that the complaints of the patients about the facilities are received, irrespective of powers that have been delegated to the local authorities to avoid inconvenience to the patients. Henceforth if complaints are received from patients, concern authorities will be held responsible, warned collector Mandhare.

Who is eligible for home isolation?

The patient should be clinically assigned as a very mild case/pre-symptomatic case by the treating medical officer. They should have requisite facilities at their residence for self-isolation and also for quarantining family members, and a well-ventilated single-room, preferably with an attached/separate toilet.

A caregiver should be available 24 x 7, and a communication link between the caregiver and hospital is a prerequisite for the entire duration of home isolation. The caregiver and all close contacts should take hydroxychloroquine prophylaxis as per protocol and as prescribed by the treating medical officer. The patient and caregivers should be given a course of zinc, vitamin C/multivitamin tablets for 10 days.
