Healing Hands Clinic recognized by MUHS for Fellowship in Proctology

Nashik: Healing Hands Clinic (HHC) has now been recognized by Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) for Fellowship in Proctology. Each year five students (national/international) will be admitted through MUHS for the year long course. This is the first of its kind university recognized course in India for Proctology.

Dr Ashwin Porwal, founder of HHC and leading Colorectal surgeon in India, said, “Till date there was no university recognized training course in Proctology (Piles, Fissure, Fistula, Prolapse, Constipation & Incontinence). General surgeons used to practice the above specialty, but in recent years Proctology has emerged as a Super-specialty. There are many new “Minimally Invasive” treatment options for the above conditions which significantly affects the quality of life.

The advanced treatment was being offered by selected surgeons across various cities, but considering the incidence of the disease (average one in a family) limited surgeons can’t cater the needy population. Now with the first university recognised fellowship course in India starting from 2017 at Healing Hands Clinic every year five surgeons will be trained.”

He also said, “Training is the key in healthcare. Considering the huge gap we face today in India in healthcare, training is one of the most effective solution. If surgeons are trained in rural India, the burden on healthcare system in metros will decrease. It will also be very cost effective for poor and needy patients. Till date we have trained 125 surgeons from India, UAE, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. These were short private courses and there was no university recognition.
