Nashik: Disapproving hawkers zone and no hawkers zone by NMC to press for cancellation of orders regarding shifting to hawkers zones, the action committee of hawkers, kiosk owners, sellers and hawkers on road organised a march to the NMC headquarter and registered their protest. The delegation of action committee gave a memorandum to Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishore Borde.
Nashik Municipal Corporation is making preparations since last one-and-half year for implementation of national hawkers policy. This process has come into final stage now. NMC has announced hawkers zone and no hawkers zone in the city. Some meetings took place in presence of the members of city hawkers committee and decisions have been taken.
NMC has started a process to shift hawkers in no hawkers zone to new hawkers zone. The hawkers zone and no hawkers zone suggested by NMC were not fixed in city hawkers committee and signatures of the committee members were taken, alleged the committee.
On the backdrop of this, the march by all hawkers and kiosk owners was organised. It began from B D Bhalekar ground under leadership of Shantaram Chavan and Sunil Bagul. Hawkers having banners mentioning various demands took part in the march. After passing through main routes in the city, this march was taken to the NMC headquarter. Agitators raised slogans condemning NMC near main entrance and protested NMC stand.
Action committee’s Chavan, Bagul and other office bearers expressed their views. Thereafter, the delegation of the committee met Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishore Borde and held discussions with him. They also handed over the memorandum to him. Dinesh Jadhav, Shashikant Unhavane, Balasaheb Ugale, Sandip Jadhav and others were part of the delegation.
