Govt distributes 48280 MT foodgrains in May : Bhujbal

Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the government has distributed 48280 metric tonnes of food grains to lakhs of beneficiaries in Nashik division in the month of May so far. Under the NFSA, ration is distributed at a highly subsidized price. Wheat is supplied at Rs 2/kg and rice at Rs 3/kg.

On the other hand, 70,863 metric tonnes of food grains have been sanctioned for the Priority and Antyoday beneficiaries and accordingly 98 per cent of the food grains have already been delivered at the ration shops for distribution which is to start from Monday (May 25), informed state food and civil supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal

After holding a discussion with union minister Ram Vilas Paswan through video conferencing at the collectorate, Bhujbal said that in April, 62,854 MT of rice was distributed to ration card holders of Antyoday and Priority families and 55,980 MT of free rice was distributed under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.

Distribution of 98.77% ration

For the month of May, 70863 metric tons of foodgrains have been sanctioned for Nashik division under Antyoday and Priority family schemes. Under these schemes, so far, 77 per cent of foodgrains have been distributed in Ahmednagar, 66 per cent in Jalgaon, 80% in Dhule and 84 per cent in Nandurbar district. A total of 8,375 ration shops in the division have been supplied with foodgrains which stands at 98.77 per cent.

Saffron card holders also benefited

Foodgrains have also been distributed to saffron card holders. Since the beginning of May so far, Nashik district has received 2683 MT, Ahmednagar 3285 MT, Jalgaon 2771 MT, Dhule 1609 MT and Nandurbar district 532 MT of foodgrains. An allocation of 67,745 MT of rice has also been sanctioned under the 5-kg free rice scheme of the central government.
