‘Government has cheated farmers’

Nashik : Following agitation by farmers in the state, the state government had announced a loan waiver. The government is claiming it has provided a historic loan waiver of Rs. 34,000 crore to 40 lakh farmers. Actually, not a single farmer has benefitted from this. Then, where has the money meant for the loan waiver gone? Not a single farmer will get benefit of the loan waiver due to stringent conditions and norms in it. This is plain cheating by the government, alleged leaders of farmers in the country. Now, the fight is on and we will bring the Modi government down on its knees. For this, all farmers should unitedly take part in this agitation, they were urged during a public awareness march.

The second phase of the fight for farmers’ loan waiver was started yesterday from Nashik through the steering committee. Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha and the steering committee Maharashtra state started the public awareness march yesterday.

Earlier, a convention was organised at Tupsakhare lawns. Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana’s MP Raju Shetti, MLA Bachhu Kadu, MLA Jayant Patil, former judge B G Kolse-Patil, Raghunathdada Patil, convener of Akhil Bharatiya Sangharsh Samiti V M Singh, Yogendra Yadav, Sardar Gorasingh, former MLA Surmani, Ajit Navale, Amit Shah, Chandrashekhar, Rundusingh and leaders of farmers organisations were present on the dais.

Alleging that loan waiver by government is a sham, MP Raju Shetti slammed the Fadnavis government. Figures being stated by the government are false. Actually, only the loan of deceased farmers will be waived off, but the government in any case has no option but to close these accounts. Loan of Rs. 25,000 will be waived off for farmers repaying their loans regularly. Those who have taken loan for poly house, irrigation, shade net and emu farming were excluded from the loan waiver. Farmers and people have been fooled with false figures. There is a need to raise an intense fight against this government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should fulfill his promise given before Lok Sabha elections to give minimum support price of 1.5 times the production cost to farmers, else a historic agitation will be staged across the country, it was decided.

Former judge B G Kolse-Patil, Yogendra Yadav, Ajit Navale, Bachhu Kadu and V M Singh in their speeches urged that farmers should come together for their demands, forgetting differences among them. It was decided to stage a countrywide agitation for loan waiver and minimum support price. “Though there was opposition by farmers, measurement of the land for Samruddhi Expressway project was conducted. However, as per land acquisition act, 2013, permission of farmers is essential for land acquisition. Farmers raised their objections. Despite this, the dream project is going ahead. We will not keep quiet. Severe agitation will be staged against the Samruddhi expressway project. Steering committee is behind you,” MP Raju Shetti assured the project affected farmers.

Meanwhile, Kisan Mukti Yatra which is being organised to press for complete removal of loan remarks on 7/12 extracts and MSP as per recommendations of Swaminathan Commission will reach New Delhi on July 18. Urns containing ashes of six farmers who died during agitation at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh and a single urn representing those farmers who committed suicides across the country will be kept. It will be urged that people’s representatives should come tot Jantar Mantar, if they want farmers’ votes and give their support to the agitation, and raise voice over farmers’ problems in parliament.
