Ganesh festival kicks off in city with fervour


Nashik: The ten-day long Ganesh festival kicked off with zeal and fervour in Nashik city on Thursday. The festival began with devotees, mostly attired in traditional clothes, bringing colourfully-crafted idols of the elephant-headed God in their homes and pandals and installing them amid chants of ‘Ganapati Bappa Moriya’, the beating of drums and a sprinkling of ‘gulal’ (red coloured powder).

Several beautifully decked up pandals have been erected in major parts of the city, where huge idols of Lord Ganesh have been placed on raised platforms for people to worship.
Preparations to welcome the beloved deity of Maharashtra were going on since last few days by Public Mandals and Nashikites. Lord Ganesh welcomed in the city and suburban areas in vigour and enthusiasm.

Public Ganesh Mandals took out processions of lord Ganesh amidst beating of traditional drums and cymbals. Devotees showering flowers at various locations on prestigious lord Ganesh idols during their processions.

The stalls selling lord Ganesh idols were set up at Dongre Vastigruh ground, Thakkar’s Dome, Nasardi bridge and main market areas in suburban areas. Devotees rushed there to buy lord Ganesh idols. Many booked the idols in advance. Mandals have started to set up beautiful and attractive decorations based on social issues and other related topics.

Meanwhile, rush of devotees was seen since morning at Ravivar Karanja, Saraf Bazaar, Dahipool, Bhadrakali and Dongre Vastigruh ground area to purchase pooja related items.
In view of the festival, police have beefed up security to prevent any untoward incident.

All Public Ganesh Mandals in the city organised processions in a traditional way. Girls and women took part of them on large scale. Meanwhile, prestigious lord Ganesh idol of Nashik Municipal Corporation has been installed at the east divisional office on Main Road in presence of Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. Mundhe family performed the prayer.

The Municipal Commissioner also performed the prayer after installation of Lord Ganesh idol at NMC headquarter Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan.
