FDA invokes ban on sale of sweets, farsan

NASHIK :

Citing violation of norms of the lockdown by the sweets and farsan (snacks) vendors and producers, the food and Drugs Administration Nashik has banned sale of sweets and snacks for the health and safety of the people, until further notice.

According to the letter dated April 17, during the lockdown and curfew period, confectionery and farsan manufacturers and vendors in the district were allowed to production and parcel services subject to rules and regulations. But the sellers and manufacturers had allegedly started selling their products unpacked and loose on all days including holidays and by keeping the shops open in violation of the rules.

“It was, therefore, pointed out that the lockdown rules were being violated since the permission was given. In this connection, the confectioners and sellers of sweets and farsan have been banned from selling their products,” informed joint commissioner, FDA Nashik, C D Sanlukhe through a letter.

The parcel services were allowed to the sweets and farsan sellers in the city and district to do business within the assigned time by the Food and Drugs Administration. However, some vendors were found to have violated the rules by opening their own shops. Therefore, the concerned department has revoked the permission given earlier to the manufacturers and sellers. The FDA has ordered the concerned vendors and traders to close down their businesses immediately until further orders, otherwise, action will be taken.
