Either extend deadline or waive loans for 3 months : Vikhe Patil

Former state minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil has demanded extension of a deadline period or complete loan waiver for farmers for 3 months under the Mahatma Phule loan waiver scheme.

“Amid growing Corona concerns, the state government should declare either extension of a deadline period for three months or complete loan waiver for 3 months to give a relief to lakhs of farmers in the state,” Patil demanded through a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Meanwhile, MP Rahul Shewale has also demanded complete loan waiver for the distressed farmers for the current three months or extension of deadline period for 3 months

“Either extend the deadline for loan waiver with respect to home loan, vehicle loan, education loan and personal loan or completely waive the debt for 3 months period,’ he said in a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The chief minister had announced tha Rs 4,807 crore were deposited in the bank accounts of around 7.65 lakh farmers under the Mahatma Phule Farm Loan Waiver Scheme.

The government is providing loan waiver to those farmers whose accounts are linked with their Aadhaar cards. The State Government has also started the process of identifying those farmers, who have availed loans up to Rs 2 lakh so that they could be made debt-free.
