District Supply officers suspended for providing sub-standard food amid COVID-19

NASHIK :

District Supply Officers of Nagpur and Gadchiroli have been suspended for supplying substandard rice to the beneficiaries through the public distribution system during Covid-19.

According to an official statement issued on Friday, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who inspects the food grains distributed through the public distribution system, directed that the District Supply Officer Nagpur and District Supply Officer Gadchiroli, who were responsible for monitoring, should be suspended and their accounts should be investigated, and a case should be registered against the rice mills from which substandard rice has been processed under the Essential Commodities Act and their mills’ permission should be revoked.

He pointed out to the Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Secretary Sanjay Khandare that the government was being discredited for providing substandard rice to eligible beneficiaries during Covid-19 and the needy beneficiaries are also being deprived of benefits. The Minister have ordered him to inspect all the ICMR stocked warehouse.

As similar complaints were being received from many districts, he further directed the State Level Deputy Controller Enforcement and FCI representatives to form a joint inspection team and submit a report on all the godowns stored in CMR.
