NASHIK: A Covid-19 vaccination drive has been started in Nashik Road central prison with help of Nashik Municipal Corporation, Bytco hospital, district civil hospital and district collectorate. The inmates and staff of the prison are being vaccinated under the drive. Though other prisons in the state witnessed Covid-19 spread, the officials and staff in Nashik Road central prison have succeeded in the prevention of infection.
The prison administration has now decided to vaccinate all the 2,500 inmates and 400 staff. In the last 15 days, 1400 inmates have been vaccinated and the prison has achieved the top rank in the state.Vaccination has also been started in prisons in Mumbai, Pune and Thane. However, the highest percentage of vaccination has been done in Nashik Road prison.
There are 80 women inmates among those who have been vaccinated. Besides, there are a total of 400 officers and staff and 300 staff have been vaccinated. As the number of prisoners is high, the vaccination will be completed in a month and a half. The prison has been started in K N Kela high school to keep new inmates there. They are brought to the main jail after 15 days. Due to strict measures, the prison administration has succeeded in preventing the Covid-19 infection.
